With more cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus being reported in the country, the Centre has directed states to maintain a strict watch on the Covid-19 situation.
Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan has written to states to focus on district level measures for containment of clusters of new positive Covid cases.
According to Bhushan’s letter, the Centre has identified eight districts in three states — Kerala, Mizoram and Sikkim — which have been reporting more than 10 per cent positive rates in the past two weeks.
Moreover, 19 districts in seven states and Union Territories have been reporting positivity rates between 5 per cent and 10 per cent in the past two weeks, he said.

“In case of any district reporting a surge in cases, or rise in positivity rates, intensive action and local containment as per the containment framework must be initiated,” added Bhushan.
State health authorities have been advised to ramp up testing and surveillance and ensure strict adherence to Covid norms at all times and at all places.
India reported 7,992 new Covid-19 cases and 393 fatalities on Saturday, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry. The country’s tally of Omicron cases climbed to 33 as Delhi confirmed its second case of the mutated variant.
