Interior designing is the art of decorating the interiors of buildings – rooms, offices, homes, etc. The interior designers are very important for the fashioning up of functional spaces which were dull or uninspiring so as to create exciting and aesthetically harmonious surroundings. They are having their own field in fashioning up the interiors by giving new dimensions to what they call ‘functional walls’ with expensive paper, paint, and matching colors.

As Pakistan is considered a developing country with many issues that need attention like poverty alleviation, education, health care, etc., I feel that it should focus on these key areas rather than spending billions of rupees annually on decoration items like furniture and crockery items. The majority of Interior Designing in Pakistan are not well off or middle class to use these items on regular basis. Rather, it will lead to unhealthy competition among the rich people only.

I would like to mention here that interior designing does have its uses in terms of creating positive functional spaces but I do not believe in wasting money unnecessarily while developing countries should focus on development rather than flaunting expensive furniture and crockery which is out of reach for the majority of Pakistanis.

It will create unnecessary hype about its users which will make it difficult for poor people to live peacefully with other members of society. Interior designing should be done sensibly instead of doing the decoration business at random without any planning. For example, if a government office needs renovation then priorities should be given according to the level of use by employees. If there is more heavy-duty work then it should be given the highest priority followed by less heavy-duty work like painting etc.
