How to Control Flow Measurement with Digital Flow Meter

Digital Liquid Turbine Sensor

A turbine flow meter is one of the most used types of digital flow meters. It gauges and controls the flow of water. Turbine flow meters work by allowing the water flowing in a tube to spin a free-spinning turbine. Typically, the blade spins’ speed is the same as that of the water flowing in the turbine sensor. The output sign is fed in a second device to give a reading volume or flow rate. This device is easy to fix and requires little to no upkeep.

 A turbine flow meter is ideal for clean water. That means that it can be used as a chilled water flow meter, water from the well, drinking water, RO water flow meter, among others. These meters are susceptible to particles in the water and the changes in viscosity. Usually, the output from a turbine flow meter can be current output or even pulse output. But, it is not suitable for low flow conditions.

Electromagnetic Sensor 

These meters gauge flow depending on Faraday’s law. This device’s main gain is that the force loss is shallow, and its gauging flow range is high. The ratio of the most raised flow to the lowest flow is more than 20: 1.

 The electronic flow meter has an industrial tube size that is very wide, up to 3m. Its output signal and the gauged flow is linear and has great accuracy. The conductivity can measure an alkali, acid, sewage, pulp, mud, corrosive liquid, salt solution, water, among others. You can also use this device as an industrial water meter. The meter cannot gauge the flow of steam, pure water, and gas. 

Digital Vortex Flow Meter 

A vortex flow sensor has good repeatability and contains no moving parts. That means that it is less prone to wear and tear. When water moves past an obstacle such as a rock in the steam, some eddies are created. Various types of sensors gauge the rate of the vortices formed by a shedder bar. Generally, the volumetric flow rate is the same as that of the vortices frequency.

Coriolis Flow Meter 

A Coriolis sensor is used to gauge the mass flow. Water flows in a pipe or pipes. Those pipes vibrate, and the flow of water in the vibrating tube leads to a twist in the line. The twist is the same as the mass flow down the pipe. You can gauge the twist by calculating the mass flow. Afterward, the mass flow rate can convert to a volumetric flow rate.

This device has an accuracy that cannot be altered by the amount of fluid density or flow. Coriolis meter has good repeatability and turndown of about 20:1. But, this meter is relatively expensive when compared to a vortex flow meter and turbine sensor. It is sensitive to noise and variations that can lead to gauging errors.

Rotameter Sensor

Rotameters gauge the rising of a float in a tapered pipe. That pipe is made from metal, plastic, or glass. It is fixed vertically to allow the water to through the narrow end and come out from the wide end. This meter works by pushing the float up a wide pipe until the float reaches a stable point if the water force balances the float’s weight.
