It causes scummy residue on tubs, mineral buildup around faucets, dry and itchy skin, and breeds many other problems.

In India, pioneer brand like Zero B provides best in class compact automatic softeners for household use & large capacity softeners for gated communities. Water softener are not only easy to install but also very easy to maintain. Regular maintenance makes them work effectively and last longer.

Let us read a few simple steps to clean your water softener and know how easy it is to maintain a home water softener.

1. Take Note of the Salt Level in Your Water Softener –

Salt is essential in the water softer as it regenerates the resin beads that swap the hard water into the soft water by carrying out the ion exchange process. When the salt level decreases, you start getting hard water hence it’s important to check the salt level every few weeks, however, the frequency may vary depending on the usage, level of hardness and many other factors.

2. Add Salt to the Brine Selectively –

People generally tend to use any household salt available at home for the water softener. To get the best results, it is necessary to use right kind of salt and avoid using any old salt that you have at home. Tablets and Crystal are the two kinds of salts that you can use for the water softener. Its recommended to use best quality tablet salt specially made for water softeners.

3. Do Not Let the Salt Bridges Sit –

If you use a low-quality salt, it can form a solid layer in the bottom of the brine tank, called a bridge. The bridge prevents the water from mixing with the salt properly and thus, prevents the softener from working.

Check and clean the brine tank regularly to prevent salt bridges in the water softener. However, ensure that clean the salt bridges carefully to avoid any damage to the walls of the softener.

4. Clean the Resin Bed Manually –

A collection of thousands of tiny resin beads inside the water softener tank makes the resin bed. When water enters the softener, it enters the resin bed, where water flows through the beads, and beads replace the hard water minerals with the ions they are holding. This ion exchange swaps hard water into soft water.

Over time, these beads get filled with the harness ions and lose their capability to soften the water. However, to regenerate them, salt brine is pumped into the resin through the brine tank, which cleans the beads, removes the harness ions, and adds a fresh layer of sodium ions to the beads. But the beads can still lose their efficiency if not cleaned for long.

 5. Clean the Brine Tank –

The brine tank present in the modern water softeners rarely need cleaning. However, to avoid any problems, ensure that you clean the brine tank once in a while. Before you proceed with cleaning the brine tank, don’t forget to read the user manual to know the best way of cleaning the tank. For the proper functioning of the appliance, clean the brine tank in every six to 12 months.
