A Guide To Getting Your Car AC Repaired

One of the most complex problems to detect and fix is a defective car air conditioner. If your car’s air conditioner isn’t pumping cool air, the first thing you can look for are signs of leakage or a non-functioning A/C compressor. If your A/C device needs extensive maintenance, you do not have the appropriate tools to complete such repairs at home, then it’s best to consult a professional at making a car AC repair. However, if it is low on refrigerant, you will refuel it with a recharge kit purchased at a nearby auto parts shop.

Identifying the Issue

Step 1: Switch on the air conditioner and start the engine. Start the car with the key and change the air conditioner to heavy. Test the air out of the air conditioner to determine if it is hot, damp, or freezing. There may be an airflow issue.

Step 2: Check to see if the A/C compressor is turned on. You must ensure that the air conditioner compressor is operational to decide the best plan of action for making repairs if possible. Look in the engine bay for the air conditioner to see if the middle of the pulley is rotating along with the pulley itself.

Step 3: Inspect the wiring that connects to the A/C compressor. A wire usually connects the electric clutch on most compressors. Unplug the connector located in the center of the cable. Connect the compressor’s cable to the positive (+) terminal of your battery with a length of a string. If you hear a sharp CLACK, the electric clutch is in good working order. Otherwise, it would have to be substituted.

Step 4: Examine the air conditioning system for leakage. You can purchase leak detector kits to assist you in identifying any leakage in the air conditioning system. These packages have a dye that can flow through the lines and seep out of any leaks or gaps, highlighting them to the naked eye.

Preparing to Add Refrigerant

Step 1: Obtain the proper kind of refrigerant for your engine. Checking the year of manufacture is the simplest way to decide the right kind of refrigerant for your engine. R134a is used in all cars manufactured after 1995. If your car is older, it most definitely uses R12.

Step 2: Use a thermometer to determine the atmospheric temperature. You must know the actual temperature of your room to read the gauge on the refrigerant. Refrigerant consumes a different room inside the can and air conditioning system at different temperatures, allowing the gauge to read differently.

Step 3: Locate the air conditioning’s low-side service port. Your AC system will have two service ports: one on the low and high sides. You must find and mark the low side service port when charging your air conditioner.

Step 4: Clean the area around the service port with a cloth. Wipe off the pot, lid, and area around it with a rag to ensure that no grime or dirt clogs the service port. Wipe the cap and its line first, then cut the cap and clean the port.

Step 5: Attach the charging hose to the service port on the low side. Attach the hose included with the refrigerant refill package to the low side service port you described earlier. Assemble the hose such that the opposite end is attached to the can’s nozzle.

Step 6: Assess pressure using the gauge’s atmospheric air pressure chart. To calculate the current amount of the refrigerant, read the gauge indicator while keeping the ambient temperature in mind. After you’ve started spraying, keep an eye on the gauge and see when the system is complete.

Refilling the Refrigerant

Step 1: Turn the valve until the cap on the can is punctured. Turn the refrigerant can’s top valve clockwise before it pierces the top and starts releasing refrigerant through the hose and into the vehicle’s air conditioning device.

Step 2: Keep the can straight. Hold the can upright and shake it periodically while allowing the refrigerant to flow down into the vehicle’s engine. Turning the can to the side causes the pressure to decrease, and they can fail to refill the system.

Step 3: Check for refrigerant leakage. When you refill the air conditioning system, keep an eye out for signs of leakage. If you discover a leak, it must be fixed by a skilled technician. Create a list of the location of the leak to make it easy to locate and repair.

Step 4: Disconnect the charging hose and place the container somewhere cold. Remove the hose from the service port and replace the cap until the gauge reads complete. If there is some remaining refrigerant in the can, you can save it from refueling another car or service the exact vehicle in the future.

Step 5: If possible, bring the car in for maintenance. If you discover a leak or the air conditioning compressor fails to engage, you must take the car to a mechanic. Replacing an A/C compressor can necessitate the use of specialized tools in your application, putting it outside the reach of most hobby mechanics.

You’d have the most unpleasant journey ever if your auto air conditioner didn’t work correctly. As a result, you must always track your car’s coolers and inspect your tires, brakes, and engine.

Air conditioning is almost a must in a tropical country like the Philippines, where temperatures can reach 35 degrees Celsius. And the mildest-mannered person can become irritable and crabby during heavy traffic. What happens if you turn on your car’s air conditioning and all you get is hot air? If you’re driving through the countryside, you can roll down your windows to get some fresh air, but if you’re in a busy metro, rolling down your windows could mean taking in all the exhaust, fumes, and other sources of air pollution that are floating in the city air.

Without a fully functional automotive air conditioner, you will have the most boring journey ever. As a result, you must inspect your car’s coolers regularly, just as you would your tires, brakes, and engine or visit an auto transmission repair shop for regular maintenance.
