Are you looking for practice-building tips for running your functional medicine practice? If so, you’ve come to the right place.
I’ve worked with hundreds of practitioners, training them on the benefits of bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), helping them understand BHRT and build thriving practices.
Here are some of the most important tips I share with practitioners who are looking to grow their integrative medicine practices.
1. Target Your Services
One of the wonderful things about running your own functional medicine practice is that you do have the choice to offer almost any type of health service that you want.
But in order to really hone in on selling a specialty service such as BHRT, you’ll need to do some targeting and ensure that you reach the right demographic.
We like to help practitioners build a BHRT practice develop strategic packages that include an array of complimentary services.
But when you’re just starting out on marketing your practice, the most important thing is that you are not trying to offer “everything” under the sun!
It simply won’t attract the right attention.
A clinic offering the following complimentary anti-aging services can target a certain age demographic of women:
- BHRT-based anti-aging treatments
- Specialty supplements
- Cosmetic procedures such as botox
But a clinic that offers something like physio, massage, a nutritionist, and then botox is probably stretching too far and may not get the clients it needs to keep running.
Don’t try to offer too much all at once if you’re building a practice! Instead, offer one service or a set of services that do something special that no one else is doing.
2. Get Help Running a Successful Practice
Many things need to be in place to run a successful practice centered around BHRT or another type of functional medicine.
Some main points that I like to remind individuals who come to me for coaching include:
- Staying completely clear on your purpose
- Developing an interesting brand story
- Create deep value for your patients
- Be strategic about packaging and pricing
3. Building Your Brand Story
Part of building a BHRT practice and niching your services properly will be in your branding.
Building your brand starts with understanding:
- What your target demographic is
- What their core values are
- What they already know about your product/services
- What they can learn about your product/services
- How your offerings will add value to their lives
Building a great brand doesn’t necessarily happen overnight, but with a little patience and attention, you’ll find that the rewards are worth that wait.

4. Educating Your Customers: Be Transparent!
Does your target market know — really know — what you have on offer?
BHRT is a perfect example of something new and interesting that many people haven’t even heard of, let alone understand!
Education will likely be a key part of your marketing, branding and selling. By this, you need to give customers transparent, realistic information on what BHRT (or whatever the service) is.
You want to be completely clear with them about the…
- Current clinical trials and studies
- Success stories
- FDA regulations and quality assurance
What better way to educate your would-be customers than develop an interesting marketing strategy based on why your unique services are so incredible?
Stick with the facts and be genuinely passionate about what you have on offer. Be persistent about getting the word out, and be clear about the long-term benefits of this type of therapy.
When you talk about what you love and share real success stories, people will respond!
5. Differentiate Your Offerings Based on What People Value
What company do you truly like enough to return to again and again? What is it about their products and services that keeps you coming back?
Chances are, the company taps into something you value deeply.
Consider this scenario: Two restaurants in your neighborhood offer your favorite foods, and one is cheap and convenient. The slightly pricier one is known for its exceptional service and unique ambiance.
Your (somewhat picky) friend is coming to town and wants to have a leisurely night out. You want to make sure that she is comfortable and happy.
Will you pay a little extra to make sure that everyone really enjoys their time? Or risk going to the cheaper place where your friend might complain?
Well, we all have different priorities. But chances are that you place a higher value on experience than convenience in this scenario.
Wellness is no different. The older we get, the more we value health and vitality. People looking for ways to reduce the symptoms of aging are probably going to be willing to pay a premium price for something that taps into their wellness values.
They will likely be willing to pay more for a personalized program, safe therapy, and long-term results than something that looks like a “quick fix.”
6. Find Success When Building Your Practice
Are you ready to build a practice that you are truly in love with? Then you’re already ahead of the game.
Simply being passionate about what you do, and showing this, will translate to the people around you.
Sharing your own brand story and those of your customers and teams will no doubt hold people’s interest.
But there are many pieces of the puzzle!
We offer BHRT training and services which will help you build your brand strategically and genuinely help people reach their wellness goals.
There’s truly a case for BHRT revenue levels to grow in a new or planned BHRT practice.
