13. In Japan, there will be a mass production of flying cars.
This project is experimental but Japanese developers hope that there will be flying drone taxis in Tokyo by 2020. Inventors want to create cars that will land and take off vertically and their speed will be approximately 125 mph.
One of the most pleasant “side effects” of this invention will be traffic reduction in big cities. We hope that traffic jams will vanish completely and won’t appear in the air.
12. Construction workers are going to print 3D residential areas.
The first ever 3D-printed house is located in Texas. It was built in just 24 hours for less than $4,000. After this successful experiment, the company got official permission to use 3D building technology and wants to start a mass production of houses. The company wants to focus on poor countries in South America.
11. Clothes suitable for all weather types
A small group of scientists from different countries has created a universal fabric suitable for both hot and cold weather. This fabric notices temperature changes: it provides a small amount of insulation when it’s warm and increases insulation in response to colder temperatures.
What’s most exciting about this fabric is that it operates completely passively, meaning a person doesn’t have to adjust anything, they can just enjoy the weather comfortably!
10. Data carriers get smaller and their memory gets larger.
A tiny glass disc invented by a group of scientists from the University of Southampton together with researchers from the Eindhoven University of Technology is able to store more than 360 terabytes of data. The disc was created with the help of a process called femtosecond laser writing.
The technology was introduced in 2013 and the researchers continue to improve their invention. Today, this tiny data carrier can store even more information.
9. Drones have already replaced models on runways.
The first fashion brand that used drones was Dolce & Gabbana. First, it used drones to model its handbags. In 2018 during a show, these devices replaced all models and demonstrated dresses and other outfits.
Today, it’s just a performance that attracts people’s attention. But what if drones were to totally replace models on the runways in the future?
8. It’s possible to print a 3D pizza. People say it’s tasty!
Modern technology is ready to change housewives’ lives. In the USA, there are already 3D printers that can print chocolate and pancakes. There’s also a new device that is able to print a cake, ravioli, cookies, and even pizza.
7. At The Dallas International Airport, there are video game lounges.
Now passengers won’t get bored between flights. There are lounges with 22 Xbox stations and it’s open daily until 10 p.m.
Players can pick from 19 games and pay by the minute, or play for an unlimited amount of time for $20. It’s a brand-new experiment that is said to be really successful.
6. Advertising gets personal.
We always receive tons of different ads and it can be really annoying. In Japan, marketing specialists decided to improve the process by using special sensors that can identify a passenger’s sex by scanning their pupils, and artificial intelligence will then read their reaction to an ad.
In the blink of an eye, this new technology can identify a product that might be interesting (for example, mascara) to a person and advertise it to them.
5. Drones that turn into selfie sticks
Photos taken by drones may be called a certain kind of art. Nowadays, we all are able to take such pictures: in Italy, a drone for selfies has been developed. This flying camera is small and you can carry it with you. We’re afraid that regular selfie sticks have become quite old-fashioned already.
4. Frames that allow objects to move in slow motion are used as interior decor.
Slow Dance is a new gadget that slows down the passage of time. This invention may be used to decorate your home or office.
Any object placed in this frame starts to move in slow motion and a special LED backlight blinks around 80 times in 1 second. As a result, the stroboscopic effect occurs.
3. Blind people “see” works of art with the help of special gloves.
In spring 2018 in Prague, an experimental art exhibition of statues in virtual reality took place. The majority of visitors consisted of blind and visually impaired people.
Developers created a series of 3D models of famous statues, from David to Venus de Milo. Visitors were invited to put special gloves on to “touch” objects and even “feel” the difference between various kinds of materials. Each VR glove had 10 devices inside that caused vibrations in certain parts of the hands while approaching a virtual object.
Developers want their gloves to be used at schools for blind children to let them “touch the art”. Until today, blind children have been taught with relief aids and tactile pictures that don’t accurately reflect reality.
2. All devices will become universal.
Time is priceless. In order to not waste time at a train station, George Barratt-Jones, a man from The Netherlands, invites people to exercise on a stationary bike.
There are lots of benefits to this. You can pump up your muscles, warm up, and even get a scarf. The inventor created a hybrid of a stationary bike and a knitting machine. It’s easy: you ride and knit a scarf all at once.
1. An engineer from The Netherlands uses a neural circuit to let his cat inside.
Arkaitz Garro, a software engineer from Amsterdam, created a gadget that identifies only his cat’s face and lets him in.
When his cat Bobis wants to get inside, special tools sense the movement and a camera takes a photo and sends it to an image recognition platform. If it matches, Garro receives an alert letting him know that there’s a cat outside that wants to come in.
Bonus: Harmless mammography
Everyone knows that X-rays affect our health but sometimes such procedures are a must and we have to undergo them. Mammography is an example of this. Researchers from the Eindhoven University of Technology are working on a “breast-friendly” method, without radiation, that is more accurate and that generates 3D images. Using special echography (sound waves) an image is made and cancer can be clearly identifiable.
